Melanie Wheeler

Melanie Wheeler is an interdisciplinary artist and producer based in Nottingham. Her practice moves across installation, sound, film, research and social practice. Fiction, folkloric narratives and public dialogue run through her work which she uses as a means to explore the uncertain territories surrounding class, locality, ecology and social and material histories. Melanie is interested in creative methods of exchange, encouraging participation and collaboration across disciplines and communities, testing  the functions of creative practice to see how different methods affect the way subject and audience interact.

Melanie was a New Midland Group Associate in 2021, is currently a Near Now studio member and a member of the a-n Artist Council from 2022-25. She works as a Programmes Officer for the Nottingham Festival of Science and Curiosity and Ignite!. Her previous experience includes roles as: Curator at Artcore (Derby). Community Engagement Curator for Arts Melbourne (Derbyshire) and Programme Producer at CRATE (Margate). She is an alumnus of Open School East and Manchester School of Art.
