Artist Meets
Artist Meets is an artist-to-artist support programme which sees residents from Bethlem Gallery and Primary being paired based of their shared interests or approaches to art production. Throughout Spring / Summer 2021 artist pairings will meet online, sharing work and ideas, committing to a minimum of two conversations. There is no obligation for artists to share work with the public, but at the end of this brief period of collaboration pairings will have the opportunity to create an outcome, e.g., a piece of writing, an open discussion, a video that will be published online and shared with the hospital community at Bethlem. Work can potentially be presented at Bethlem Gallery, if possible to do so in line with current Covid-19 guidelines.
Bethlem Gallery will facilitate an online workshop around collaborative practice and a second group session with an archivist from the Wellcome Collection, exploring how artists might practically and conceptually approach their own archives.
Bethlem Gallery was established 1997 and is situated on the grounds of The Bethlem Royal Hospital and campaigns for access to the arts in healthcare environments engaging audiences in learning and debate on the subject of mental health and artistic practice. Managed by a small, artist-led team, the gallery provides a professional space for high-quality artwork and fosters a supportive artist-focused environment.
Artist pairs are: Frank Abbott & Mr X, Michelle Bahrier & Chris Lewis-Jones, Courtney & Roger Suckling, Fatma Durmush & Jo Wheeler.
