Rebecca Beinart

Collaborative Programme Lead

Rebecca Beinart is an artist, curator and facilitator based in Nottingham. She is the Collaborative Programme Lead at Primary (previously Engagement Curator). Her role is focussed on projects that centre socially engaged practice and co-production, creating opportunities for different communities and artists to work together. Over 10 years this has seen the development of long-term programme structures that have created strong relationships with Primary’s local neighbourhood and supported practices that centre social justice: Intersections (2014-16); Making Place (2017-2021); Build Create Play (2022-24) and Nourishment: a cyclical programme (since 2021). These programmes create generative spaces where local residents, community groups and collaborators help to shape what happens next. This area of Primary’s work feeds into the development of our site and outdoor areas, supporting ongoing work since our capital development for the organisation to become increasingly open and accessible. In addition to working on the programme at Primary, Rebecca contributes to organisational development and strategy.

Alongside her role at Primary, Rebecca works on freelance art projects and commissions. Her research and artworks use socially-engaged approaches to explore collective histories and futures, social and environmental justice, and the politics and ecology of public space. Collaborations have included work with artists, writers, scientists, herbalists, landworkers, activists and communities. She completed an MA in Arts & Ecology in 2008 and went on to work on major publicly commissioned projects with a focus on ecology, place and community - including with Ignite!, Spike Island, UP Projects, Radar, Artsadmin and The National Trust. Her research and projects have been supported by Arts Council England and Wellcome Trust.
