Oneiric Kitchen is a new collaborative project by adolescent counsellor and wellbeing practitioner Susie Cunningham and artist-filmmaker Chiemi Shimada. During September Chiemi is in residence at Primary as part of our Work in Common series, that encourages artists to experiment with different ways of working – either testing out a speculative idea or developing new collaborations.
Susie and Chiemi provide therapeutic cooking workshops for people with sleep disorders. Susie is a patient with an incurable sleep disorder. Chiemi met her in 2019 and started documenting her lived experience. The project aims to create a safe space to reflect on the participants' relationship with sleep through sensory and therapeutic cooking experiences.
The workshop:
Susie and Chiemi are facilitating a therapeutic cooking workshop at Primary for adults with sleep disorders. Participants will be encouraged to reflect on their relationship with sleep by making energy balls. The workshop will be filmed for documentation, so participants need to be comfortable on camera. Please bring your own aprons if you have one, and we will provide some for those who don’t.
