Primary are looking for participants for Landedness, our new creative programme in collaboration with Black Swan Society & MADEYOULOOK, a documenta fifteen artist collaborative based in Johannesburg, South Africa.

Landedness is a fun and dynamic knowledge and cultural exchange programme between South Africa and the UK focused on exploring the implications of Black urban gardening.

This opportunity is for Black people and PoC aged 18-35.

Landedness builds on the two-year project by MADEYOULOOK at Primary (2020-2022), which included the Gardens of Others podcast and series of garden talks in 2021. Collaborating with artists and partners including MADEYOULOOK, the ungovernable, and BLK SWN Society, participants in South Africa and the UK will get the opportunity to explore the idea of “landedness” in both cultural contexts.

Throughout the programme, you will be required to attend four workshops and two check-ins between March - July 2022; the below dates are provisional:

  • Online introductory meeting: Tuesday 29th March, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

  • In-person: Friday 15th - Saturday 16th April 2022

  • Online check-in: Monday 2nd May, 6:30pm - 7:30pm

  • In-person: Tuesday 17th May
