Social Practice Social: Distraction

Mikaela Assolent joins us this month to present 'Queer Distraction: Pedagogies for a distracted reception of art'. Being able to focus is often valued as a sign of self-discipline, and concentration is central to traditional forms of education. This talk explores how we can politicize the idea of concentration, which has historically been marked as masculine and white, and how we can open-up to more inclusive modes of attention, specifically in how we think about art.

Social Practice Social is a monthly discussion forum for artists, programmers, community organisers, activists, and others working with participation, collaboration, public space, or social change. The group is open, free to attend, and anyone is welcome to join. All Social Practice Social sessions will take place online until we're able to meet in person again.

This event will take place via Zoom - please email rebecca@weareprimary.org for the meeting information.
